Tiling the porch

First job on the list was redoing the east porch. The old jalosy windows tend to leak in high winds, it had ugly carpet and the green paneling just wasn’t my cup of tea. After much back breaking work I got the old linoleum up. I tried many different ways to remove the old mastic and failed every time. I ended up using a thickset mortar and it seems to work well.

After getting the paneling off and inspecting the door frame I ran into problems. I had to chip out alot of cracked concrete and completely replace the door frame. I did this project during the winter and most days were pretty gloomy. The day I finished the tiling it was pooring and blowing in the door opening.

I opted to tile the porch. Easier to clean when the rain gets through the windows. It’s a muted sand color tile with a semi gloss finish. A fresh coat of paint and new frame for the storm door and it’s ready for the cat to enjoy during the day.
